Neues Museum

Modern compositions on writings of antiquity in the Neues Museum – musical short tours invite the visitors to explore the collections with the audio guide and discover the art associatively and multisensory. Radoslaw Pallarz and the ensemble MEMORIA TENERE set traditional texts and inscriptions of antiquity to music for contemporary instruments - evoking atmospheric sounds and places of bygone eras.

Ready for a short break after seeing Nefertiti and co.? Matching the theme, you can get bulgur salad, Egyptian wraps and Amarna slices in the café as well as the classics and coffee and cake.

The showcase exhibition is devoted to the mysterious material known as Corinthium aes – "Corinthian bronze". Knowledge of the material’s intricate manufacturing process was long believed to be lost, until a goldsmith from Nuremberg undertook to recreate it. Now, modern and ancient Egyptian artefacts enter into dialogue in the Neues Museum.

Gold jewellery from the migration period found near the Black Sea, silver brooches and magnificent belts from early medieval graves in France, Italy, Spain, and Germany: selections from the collection of Johannes von Diergardt will be on view again in Berlin for the first time in 80 years, re-turning to the city where they were displayed until 1934.
